Our forefathers guaranteed us the right to a free press.  But in today’s world, the "free press" is at a crossroads.  Acquisitions and mergers have taken the many voices of media down to a few, and public trust of national media is at an all time low.  Many have forgotten that the primary purpose of journalism is to provide citizens with the information that they need to be free and self-governing.  A. J. Liebling, an American journalist, wryly noted, "freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one."  And that is the basis of our Community Correspondent® site; this is YOUR site.

Citizens have the ability to observe and report more immediately and widely than traditional media outlets.  By committing "random acts of journalism," you are part of the largest and most widely accessible pool of information in human history.  And as a citizen of your community, we encourage you to take an active role in the journalistic process.

Who is Pappas Telecasting Companies?

Pappas Telecasting Companies is the largest privately held broadcast group in the country.  We have long believed in the empowerment of the people and have embarked on the Community Correspondent® project as an opportunity to "liberate" the audience by inviting you to be a part of our newsroom.  We believe in Liberation TV: Media of the people, by the people and for the people.  We can’t cover it all.  We need your stories.  We need your input.  The Community Correspondent® site serves our newsroom as an important news resource: we use your stories every day and monitor the site for information and updates the way we utilize our traditional newsgathering resources like AP & CNN.   As a Community Correspondent®, you will gain a reporter’s stature by your consistency, accuracy and frequency of reporting.
