It was 1988 and a childhood friend of mine had just transferred from Stanford to Fresno State to play baseball for his senior season. Lance and I had played on the same team in Babe Ruth League. Stanford was ranked #1 in the nation at the time.
I normally would go to games with my former roommate, but he was unavailable that night. I started sorting through business cards in my wallet looking for people that were sports minded. I came across a card of a gentleman named Dave who had played racquetball with me a couple times. Dave said he would love to go to the game, and to my surprise, a beautiful blonde British girl also attended the game with us. Dave's girlfriend had homework that night, so Sue decided to get some American culture, and came with us. Sue and Dave's girlfriend had modeled together in Germany. She had only been in California two days. Well I was smitten to say the least. I asked Dave if he thought she would go on a date and he said, "You have my phone number, she'll be staying with us for the next three weeks." I called, she accepted, and nearly 22 years later, we have three children, one with special needs. We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this April. Through all the up and downs of marriage, the challenges of raising a special needs child, I still don't regret pulling out Dave's business card as it lead me to be married to one of the most beautiful people in the world, on the outside and on the inside.....
