Disabled Veteran Denied Benefits for Combat Injury
Ronald Fiske
Views: 222

I am a disabled veteran who served our country honorably in the US Marine Corp during Vietnam. During my service, I was wounded in combat when shrapnel hit my mouth, shattering my teeth and disaligning my jaw. After surgery, I was offered a medical discharge, but I chose to stay in and continue to fight with my unit. When I was honorably discharged, I was rated as 10% disabled and refused ongoing dental care for my combat injury because of a loophole in the Veteran's Administration that says you cannot receive dental care unless you are 100% disabled, regardless if your disability is dental and directly resulted from a combat injury or not. I have continued to fight this ruling with very limited success for over the past 30 years, and I have been suffering every single day. My case has been under review again since last Fall. I was told that I would receive an answer by this May, but I am still waiting and still suffering. I finally had to go and pay for dental care out of pocket that I cannot realy afford because my suffering was making it difficult to even be able to eat.I am at my wit's end now and do not know what else to do except public protest and civil disobedience. I know that my story is one of too many that reflects the injustices that are done against disabled veterans every single day. Please use your clout to help me to finally get justice and contact me as soon as possible at 919-971-6048.
